Perl ("Practical Extraction and Report Language") is a multi-platform script programming language. Due to its ability of easily working on so-called "regular expressions", it's especially suited for the analysis and conversion of files. Additionally it's one of the most frequently used languages for generating dynamic web contents (CGI scripts).
